PressRave review for “Lucia di Lammermoor” in Tenerife

Irina Lungu is receiving rave reviews for her Lucia at the Ópera de Tenerife. The Austrian magazine Der Neue Merker published the following review in their January issue:

“Irina Lungu as Lucia, who in an incredibly authentic performance played Lucia’s emotional agitation before the virtually forced signature of the marriage contract – her hand was even guided – impressively. Already her first aria received strong applause from the large audience. It grew to a fully legitimate ovation after her famous aria “Il dolce suono […] Spargi d’amaro pianto”, performed in a bloodied white dress, during which the curiously staring Ashtons and their guests could see the most important stations of Lucia’s life, among them the dead Arturo in Enrico’s bed. Lungu interpreted these moments not only with extreme empathy, passion and maximum sadness, she also sang Lucia with a gloriously luminous soprano, good low notes and resonant top notes – Belcanto in its best meaning. Her passage work and the harmony with the flute were thrilling. The big tableau at the end of the second act was even encored because of the audience’s enthusiasm! One could always sound out Lungu’s voice. She was the star of the night and received standing ovations and Bravas from the “Tenerifos” at the curtain call.”
