On July 13, Irina Lungu will return to the Teatro alla Scala for a concert accompanied by Michele Gamba and featuring former pupils of the La Scala Academy. The concert is part of La Scala’s reopening concert series, following more than four months of closure due to the Covid19 pandemic that forced the famed Italian opera house to shut its doors in February. Irina Lungu studied at La Scala’s academy with legendary soprano Leyla Gencer in the early 2000s. While she was still a student of the academy, she made her La Scala debut in the 2003/04 season inauguration premiere of Moïse et Pharaon conducted by Riccardo Muti. This was followed by many concerts and opera performances: Oksana in Čerevički, the title role of Sancta Susanna, La traviata (in two different productions) and Maria Stuarda, Marguerite in Faust, Adina in L’elisir d’amore and Nannetta in Falstaff.
