Following her acclaimed return to La Scala earlier this month, Irina Lungu is set to sing her first complete opera role after the lockdown. At the alluring setting of the Teatro Antico of Taormina, the star soprano will sing her signature role Violetta Valéry in La traviata in a one-off concert performance on July 30 on the occasion of the 2020 Taormina Arte Festival. The Orchestra and Choir of the Teatro Massimo Bellini of Catania will be performing under the baton of Maestro Fabrizio Maria Carminati, while Stefan Pop and Franco Vassallo will sing the other main roles of Alfredo and Giorgio Germont.

Irina Lungu made her role debut as Violetta in the 2006/07 season conducted by Maestro Lorin Maazel at the Teatro alla Scala, where she reprised the part the following season and in a new production in 2013. She also sang the role at the Wiener Staatsoper, Paris Opéra National, Opernhaus Zürich, Teatro Real Madrid, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Hamburg, Teatro La Fenice, Teatro Regio Turin, Teatro dell’Opera Rome, in Aix-en-Provence and at the Arena di Verona, among others.
